A WEEKEND of fabulous music at Westonbirt kicked off on Friday evening with the timeless cool of Bryan Ferry.

On Sunday the crowd was really buzzing for the Westlife boys, who proved that they know how to make an entrance and connect with the crowd from the off.

Westlife are not renowned for their original material, but classic hits such as Flying Without Wings and You Raise Me Up were perfromed with such aplomb its difficult to find fault.

Especially entertaining was the mid-set medley of modern hits from the likes of Lady Gaga, Rihanna and the Kaiser Chiefs.

Boundless energy and not an ounce of ego makes these young men ultimately likeable, whatever your taste in music. And there is no denying that they can certainly sing.

The Forestry Commission’s concerts at Westonbirt always pull in the crowds, whatever the weather – as they did this weekend, and as they also did back in June when Simple Minds, Erasure and Scouting for Girls came to play.

The next live music event at the Arboretum is in August (26-29) when the Treefest Festival will see the best in regional talent perform across four days.
