SCREAMING fans and plenty of hysterical girls – Westlife proved they can still set hearts racing on Tyneside.
The Irish lads caused a stir in Northumberland Street’s HMV yesterday as they stopped by to greet Geordie fans and sign their Greatest Hits CD.
More than 400 excited Westlife supporters queued for hours for a wristband to catch a glimpse of the band, with some even camping overnight to secure their spot.
And the four-piece, made up of Shane Filan, Nicky Byrne, Mark Feehily and Kian Egan, were more than impressed with the turn out.
Shane said: “It is pretty incredible, the nostalgia has got everyone going and the fans are just so excited.
“It is the last time we will do a signing in Newcastle and it is incredible 14 years on to be here.”
Mark added: “The fans up here have always been very passionate and always screamed loudly.”
Westlife announced last month that they would be splitting up after 14 years and 14 number one singles together.
But with the farewell tour in May and two dates at Newcastle’s Metro Radio Arena on May 14 and June 15, fans are soaking up every last moment they can with the chart-toppers. And although it may be the end of the road for the lads it does not look like the love from their North East fans will ever wane.
